The Mets got pounded by the Giants 10-1 Monday Night at Citi Field.
The winning pitcher was Joe Martinez (3-1) and the losing pitcher was Livan Hernandez (7-8)
Noteworthy:
Livan Hernandez struggled once again giving up 6 runs in 5.1 innings raising his ERA from 5.28 to 5.47. Not many highlights on the part of the Mets as the only run came in the 3rd inning off a Gary Sheffield RBI single.
My opinion:
Livan Hernandez has been terrible in his last 3 starts giving up 18 runs and 26 hits. I think this was the final straw for Livan who was the Mets most reliable starter in the early going but has just been awful of late. We will have to wait and see if Jerry decides to take Livan out of the rotation but has these possibilities in the bullpen: Tim Redding,Nelson Figueroa and Elmer Dessens. Or who knows, maybe the Mets will go to the Minors and pull up a starter such as Lance Broadway who was acquired in the Ramon Castro trade. Finally, Alex Cora will have surgery on both of this injured thumbs and miss the rest of the season
