Jose Reyes has been on the disabled list since May 26th. Since then, there have been numerous setbacks and problems with Reye's rehab. There is still no estimated time frame when Jose will be back.
Opinion:
Hope for Jose's return this season seems to have diminished to only a slight possibility. That being said, what should the Mets do with Jose this offseason? Let’s look at a possibility:
The Mets trade Jose.
Why I like this scenario: Jose is still coveted as one of the best shortstops in the MLB. He is also one of the fastest players and he has a little pop. His defense is OK, not spectacular but not terrible. The Mets could probably get a solid package for him (Jacoby Ellsbury and Clay Buchholz perhaps, as was talked about at one time)
Why I don’t like this scenario: As I said, Jose is an All Star shortstop and he still has a great load of potential. Also, Jose is probably one of the best examples of players made for Citi Field (guys with a pretty high batting average and the ability to steal bases) so why trade him away? Lastly, the Mets will most likely not get the most they can for him because he will still be recovering from his injury in the offseason.
So in the end, I think the Mets should keep Jose. His type of talent is hard to find and I still think he will become an outstanding player or at least a good one. What do you guys think? Feel free to leave a comment!
