The Mets lost to the Giants today 5-4 in 10 innings.
The winning pitcher was Giants closer, Brian Wilson (5-5) and the losing pitcher was Francisco Rodriguez (2-4)
Noteworthy:
The big news of the day was David Wright getting drilled in the head by Matt Cains 94 mph fastball in the bottom of the fourth. Wright laid face-down in the dirt for a while until he was able to walk off the field himself and head into the clubhouse. Wright was taken by ambulance to the hospital where there is still no word on how serious his injury is or for how much time he will miss.
Johan Santana did not have his best stuff today going 6.2 innings and striking out 6 while giving up 4 runs raising his ERA from 3.00 to 3.10.
The Mets rallied to tie the game with 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th before Francisco Rodriguez gave up a game winning home run to Bengie Molina in the top of the 10th.
My opinion:
Frankly, I am not too shaken at today's loss. The biggest concern I have right now as a fan and a person is that of David Wrights health. I liked that the Mets showed some heart by rallying to tie but what is going on with K-Rod of late? Finally, one thing I did not like and found unprofessional was Matt Cains tipping of his cap after leaving the game while being showered in boo's. The series between the Mets and Giants will continue tomorrow at Citi Field with Mike Pelfrey (8-8) taking on Jonathan Sanchez (5-10) at 1:10.
